STORYLINE:
One day ahead of the long expected speech of British Prime Minister Cameron, royal representatives Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie visited Berlin to kick off a promotional campaign for Britain in front of the Brandenburg gate.
Ahead of the event, Princess Beatrice said in a speech at the British embassy, that the campaign is not only to attract tourists to Britain but also to appeal to the business community.
"The great campaign also has a serious business side. Britain has trend setting fashion, ground-breaking scientists and innovative technology companies. It is also a welcome home for investors. We're here to encourage more German businesses to join the thousands that are developing successful partnerships in Britain."
Cameron will make a long-awaited speech on Friday, describing how he thinks Britain's relationship with the EU should change, a move that many fear could backfire and leave Britain increasingly isolated in Europe.
The question is whether Cameron's speech will answer how he proposes to renegotiate Britain's relationship with the EU and whether that bartering will result in Britain's ultimate exit from the bloc.
Many view the speech, which will be delivered in the Netherlands, as an attempt to shore up support from euroskeptics in Cameron's Conservative Party.
But with the EU largely focused on stemming its debt crisis, playing to internal politics could backfire and anger nations like Germany, which has taken a lead in untangling Europe's economic woes.
A chorus of international voices from Brussels to Berlin has been quick to stress the importance of Britain's presence in the EU and offer thinly veiled warnings about potential consequences.
