During Tory Lanez's trial, a neighbor testified that he saw two women fighting and initially mistook gun flashes for fireworks. However, his testimony proved unhelpful to Tory's defense. When cross-examined, Kelly confirmed he saw Tory's defense client with a gun. The defense relied heavily on the inconclusive DNA evidence associated with the gun, viewing it as a positive for Tory as he couldn't definitively be connected to the weapon. Gunshot residue was found on both Tory and Kelsey, giving rise to various theories about the shooting. This included the possibility of an argument over the gun or an accidental discharge by Kelsey. Regardless, the jury convicted Tory based on the testimony and evidence presented. Questions arose about why Tory's driver hadn't testified and whether the prosecution's emphasis on the inconclusive DNA undermined other key evidence.
