And We Danced was a melodic metalcore band formed in 2004 in Southeast Pennsylvania, rooted in the vibrant DIY post‑hardcore and metalcore scene of the mid‑2000s. The group quickly earned a dedicated local following in the Reading/Berks County area through relentless DIY shows, energetic performances, and a sound that blended raw heaviness with melodic sensibilities.

The core songwriting partnership was guitarist Nick Perich and bassist/guitarist John Miller, who crafted the band’s intricate riffs and dynamic compositions. Lyrically, the band’s early vocal duties were handled by John Perich (their original frontman), with Matt Faus stepping in as the vocalist on later recordings, giving the band a broader expressive range over time.

Across their three self‑released EPs, And We Danced showcased both growth and depth:

2004 Untitled Demo — the band’s earliest recording featuring the fan‑favorite track “Old Yeller,” which quickly became a staple in their live sets.

The Koppenheffer Sessions (2006) — widely considered their defining release, this EP included perhaps their most memorable song, “Nodinigiwaywin (1942),” which remains beloved among fans of the era.

2007 Untitled EP — a concise collection with two powerful tracks that closed out the band’s recorded work.

Though And We Danced disbanded in 2007, their influence on the Southeast Pennsylvania metalcore and post‑hardcore scene endured. Their DIY ethos and blend of melody and aggression left a lasting mark on local bands and fans long after their final show, and their EPs continue to circulate as a touchstone of the region’s mid‑2000s underground music culture.
