Quintana Roo plans to construct 21 wildlife crossings along the Cancún-Tulum highway and Maya Train tracks to ensure safe wildlife passage, with an initial investment of 17 million pesos. The project includes 15 elevated crossings, two aerial bridges, and four underground passages aimed at protecting species like jaguars, ocelots, and spider monkeys. This initiative follows recent legislation requiring wildlife crossings in transport infrastructure but comes amidst controversy over the adequacy of current Maya Train wildlife accommodations. Governor Mara Lezama has established a trust to fund this biodiversity conservation effort.
