Reports of shots fired at the US Capitol’s visitor center on March 28 sparked a security alert, with people running for cover. The Washington Post reported that police shot a man who pulled a gun and pointed it at officers at the entrance of the center. Larry Russell Dawson, 66, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a police officer while armed.

Dawson was arrested in October after shouting from the House of Representatives balcony that he was a “prophet of God”.
