Описание: Hello everyone, here we are again! Welcome to the Hanbridge Mandarin HSK program. Today we’re going to compare two words 突然and忽然. These two words have the same meaning and very similar pronunciation, but they are used differently. Let’s have a look!

Similarities: 突然 and 忽然can be used as adverbs, which are both translated as "suddenly". Here they show that something happens unexpectedly. In this case they can be used interchangeably.

There are several differences between these two words.
突然：This can be used as an adjective and sometimes used with "的" added, meaning "sudden/unexpected". 忽然 cannot be used in this way.
