A vehicle for 'Jeffersons' cast member Marla Gibbs, '227' (1985) was offered to ABC, who turned it down; it went on to a five-season run on NBC. The title refers to 227 Jefferson Place, the DC apartment building that is the show's main setting. Jackée won an Emmy for her role as a man-hungry neighbor. She left the show after the fourth season to star in a spin-off sitcom that never panned out (the failed pilot is syndicated along with '227'). After three years in the top 30, '227' slipped to top 40. Producers introduced new characters in season five but the axe fell anyway. The bouyant theme song ('There's No Place Like Home') is by Ray Colcord, and performed in the opening titles by Ms Gibbs.
