[Maximization Comments]
The heavy weapon choice is a result from a JC method of maximization. With a heavy weapon, JC attacking speed is unchanged -- JC and Musou gains damage increases without any sacrifices
A medium weapon works but isn't as good as a heavy. With a medium, the best way for Musou filling is still through JC, but a medium allows him to fit in a short C3 before executing Musou in a lot of scenarios after a first JC. This is limited to smaller crowds. The good thing about this is that you can give him the Fire Orb and a C3-Musou combo with fire is quite damaging.
Reasons why heavy is better than medium
1) medium requires Fire Orb and C3 to equal the Musou damage of a Heavy weapon
2) needing the Fire Orb means not equipping the Ice Orb -- severely limits Zhang He's Musou Rage combat
3) JC is stronger with Heavy
the Ice Orb is mainly useful for Musou Rages.
Use C6 in Musou Rage for 84% chance to freeze officers for double Musou damage and easier Musou control
Fill Musou with JC -- safest, easiest, most effective
the general idea for a safe JC is to plan the JC to land in a free area. This can be done in a variety of ways and requires very minimal crowd leading
JC covers quite a bit of lateral distance when executed. This makes it easy to walk towards officers and jump past them and have the JC slashes execute behind them.
JC is a Scattering Attack
using the two notes above, it's usually a safe choice to execute JC behind officers. The JC will scatter the crowd in front, and he will jump forward during the recovery of the JC to protect against threats from behind
conclusion -- safe JC recovery is either from scattering the crowd in front, and or landing in a clear area
loose crowds creates problems for JC
JC contributes a lot to offense against officers
it wouldn't be practical to give perfect consistency with Zhang He's Musou strikes
in general, offense against an officer takes 3 JC and 1 Musou
Musou most back and forth, and moves forward. Distance covered in the forward direction is about the same as side to side direction.
between each Musou slash allows for a short amount of time to change direction or pivot.
it is possible to connect with all Musou strikes against an opponent
each Musou strike covers the same distance, and it is possible to pivot to return in the opposite direction as the previous hit
keep officers on or near these pivot points and attempt a strike-return-strike-return style
this means every second pivot point is in the same spot that is where the officer is -- lets call this the anchor point
general offensive approach
1) hit officer and Musou fill at the same time with JC
2) lead crowds
3) use JC in a crowd that is in front of the officer to scatter the crowd into the officer
4) run after the officer and execute Musou
step 2 and 3 aren't necessary in small crowds. It's only necessary to isolate officers for a more consistent Musou
they also aren't necessary in massive crowds, because this won't be enough to isolate officers.
C3 is useful in small crowds, but minimal applications in maximization
C1 is very good for dismounting officers -- approach with a partially filled Musou
C1 is only useful for dismounting officers that have their attention on you. Since C1 is so slow with heavy weapon, may be tough to dismount officers locked onto something else.
JC can be used to dismount officers, but requires more lag between the jump and the charge -- presents higher risks on the recovery
[Tier List Comments]
Zhang He is a mid tier character
very fast Musou filler
typical offense is 3 JC + 1 Musou
offensive speed seems close to the fast fill 2 Musou offense type characters
offensive speed isn't too much slower in massive crowds despite tough connection with Musou hits (as I've misanalyzed before). This is because with JC mastery, it is very useful for dealing damage
juggling Musou in Musou Rage is not a good argument for poor Musou Rage performance. JC should isolate officers enough for a C6 to be easily executed. 84% chance to freeze is very high.
very good against archers, both eliminating archers, and ignoring them
Buffed Officers with small or no crowds may take a long time
mediocre against mounted officers
very good against multiple officers compared to other characters -- seems to only require a bit more Leading
