I picked up this Star BM pistol from my local gun store. It is a surplus pistol from Spain, and was listed as one the best surplus guns to buy. So I did some research, and decided to make the purchase. This pistol was graded "good", but based on some reviews I've seen online, mine must have been on the higher quality end of the "good" grade.
It bears a lot of similarity to the 1911, but has some differences too. It is a 9mm Parabellum, 3.77 inch barrel. The standard magazine it comes with hold 8 rounds, so it is an 8+1.
One thing to be aware of is that you should never leave this pistol with a round in the chamber and the hammer uncocked. Round in the chamber, hammer cocked, safety on = OK.
It has a steel frame, so it is a little heavy if you are thinking about using one for concealed carry. It certainly could be used for that purpose. I actually like the heftiness of the pistol. It is a solid gun which performs very well and is just fun to shoot.
