The Taliban declared victory after the US completed its withdrawal on August 31, 2021. The group said it would get Kabul’s airport “ready for use” after taking control of the facility. But it was unclear whether the regime would allow Afghans and foreigners who still want to leave Afghanistan to depart in the days ahead.
