Kick-Ass is the name of three fictional characters serving as the title characters and the protagonists of the Kick-Ass series, published by Marvel Comics under the company’s imprint Icon Comics, and by Image Comics, all created by artist John Romita Jr. and writer Mark Millar. The first Kick-Ass, the protagonist of Kick-Ass – The Dave Lizewski Years David "Dave" Lizewski, is an initially 15-year-old high school student and comic book fan whose dreams inspire him to become a real-life superhero dubbed "Kick-Ass", partnering and later training under Mindy McCready / Hit-Girl. The second Kick-Ass, a supporting character in Hit-Girl, Paul McQue, is an initially 12-year-old middle school student bullied at school, whom Mindy recruits after Dave's retirement. Dave Lizewski / Kick-Ass is portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the feature films Kick-Ass (2010) and Kick Ass 2 (2013) and the video games Kick-Ass: The Game (2010) and Kick-Ass 2: The Game (2014). The character will return in School Fight (2024).
David "Dave" Lizewski is the teenage hero Kick-Ass. He is the titular protagonist of Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2. Dave tried his hand at being a hero, and received damaged nerve endings as a result. He gained popularity as a crimefighter, but he soon learned that he was not the first real superhero. Dave met Big Daddy and Hit-Girl, a crimefighting duo operating in New York City, and was offered the chance to join them, but he declined. After associating with the Red Mist, Dave discovers he is the son of crimelord Frank D'Amico, who orchestrates the death of Big Daddy. Dave teams up with Hit-Girl, Big Daddy's daughter, to stop the father and son. Dave saves Hit-Girl from Frank D'Amico by blowing him up with a bazooka, saving the day.
In his senior year of high school, Dave learns that he has inspired others to become heroes, too. He trains with Hit-Girl to become a new crimefighting duo, but when she begins living a normal life, Dave becomes a member of Justice Forever, providing community service in addition to fighting crime. However, the Red Mist returns as the Motherfucker, and kills their leader, Colonel Stars and Stripes. Dave also loses his father after the latter discovered he was Kick-Ass and turned himself in to protect his son, which led to his death. Dave teams up with Hit-Girl and the remaining members of Justice Forever to avenge the Colonel and his father, in which they are victorious. Afterwards, Dave says goodbye to Mindy as she leaves New York, while Dave continues to dedicate himself to being a real superhero.
Kick-Ass is the main protagonist of the comic book series of the same name. He was created by artist John Romita, Jr. and writer Mark Millar and published by Marvel Comics under the company's Icon imprint. Kick-Ass is the secret identity of teenager Dave Lizewski, who decides to become a superhero. In his adult years, he becomes a new hero known as Codename: America.
Dave Lizewski is an ordinary New York teenager who decides to become a superhero out of his love of comics. He buys a wetsuit off eBay & begins his career. When trying to stop a group of vandals he is beaten, stabbed and hit by a car, breaking most of his bones. Lying to his father by saying he was mugged. After 6 months of recovery he becomes a superhero yet again, he finds a man. Telling his father he was mugged, he undergoes intense physical rehabilitation, including four operations. He is released weeks later, with metal plates all over his body and with his nerve endings having delayed reactions to pain, making him almost immune to conventional beatings. In spite of considering giving up crime fighting, he soon goes back onto the streets. When he saves a man from a beating and fights off the attacking thugs, an onlooker records the incident and uploads it on YouTube, turning Lizewski into an overnight sensation dubbed with the name Kick-Ass.
