Prevent entrapped moisture in thin stone walls by incorporating a rainscreen drainage gap. The old problems we saw with moisture and stucco are recurring in cultured stone because we aren't applying building science. To do stucco and cultured stone / manufactured stone / thin stone correctly, include a drainage gap! Products from MTI create drainage gaps of 1/8 in, 3/16in and 10mm and are proven to drain walls and protect against mold, rot and wall failure.
The weep screed at the bottom termination in a thin stone wall system protects the veneer from damange. But most weep screeds don't actually "weep" - they rely on hairline cracks in the veneer to drain moisture. There is no possibility for ventilation with most weep screeds. MTI's L&R Weep Screed keeps walls dry. It accommodates the depth of a rainscreen drainage plane and features large slots for drainage and ventilation.
