From Crisis to Cure: Blood Donors Helped Kwincy Fight Sickle Cell

Today, thanks to a lifesaving bone marrow transplant and generous blood donors, he is cured and thriving—pursuing his college degree and honoring his father's legacy through the Kwamie Lassiter Foundation.

Blood donations were vital at every stage of Kwincy's journey, from hundreds of transfusions that managed his pain crises, to red blood cell exchanges and platelet transfusions that prepared his body for transplant and supported his recovery. Blood donations remain essential for patients with sickle cell disease undergoing bone marrow transplants, stem cell transplants, and gene therapies, as well as those needing regular transfusions to manage their disease.
