Mundan/ Tonsure/ Baby’s First haircut in Pandemic

Описание: So, it was time for Om’s mundan (baby’s first haircut). We checked around about how they will do it and decided to do it ourselves. Here in USA the barbers can’t shave baby’s head because they need special license to do it. Since they would have used a hair trimmer too, we decided to give it a try and do it ourselves. There was no function or celebration due to Covid-19. It was just three of us.

It really went well. Om was just curious to know what was happening on his head. Other than that he was busy in his things.

What is Mundan?

Mundan is the eighth of the sixteen Hindu sanskar (sacraments), in which a child receives their first haircut. And is one of 16 purification rituals known as Shodasha sanskar. The ceremony is believed to rid the baby of any negativity from their past life while promoting mental and spiritual development.

When it should be done?

This samskara should take place at the end of first year or before the expiry of the third year, but the later authorities extend the age to the seventh year.
