This is a painful aspect of sin, it exposes other people to suffering who did not directly participate in the problem. David’s household seemed like such a mess. Beginning with incest, Filicide, complete family breakdown and all the madness that took place, sin places such stronghold on family. Solomon seemed to upgrade his father’s weakness to an outstanding level so much that at his old age he could not do the will of God wholly because of the strange women he had gathered over the years.
It grieves the soul when such consequences alight upon a family, when we are saved, our lives should reflect the joy of salvation but when there are sins unresolved, our joy becomes a very sour point every time we attempt to raise our heads.
