December is the perfect time to explore Thailand by train. The weather is pleasant, and the rivers, waterfalls, and reservoirs are brimming with water. To top it off, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and other operators roll out one tourist train ride after another during this season.

This year, 2024, feels extra special as it marks the debut of the luxurious Royal Blossom train on the tourist scene. After months of unsuccessfully trying to secure tickets, we finally managed to book a spot—and it was absolutely worth the wait. What made it even more memorable was the destination: Pasak Jonlasid, a reservoir located primarily in Lopburi Province.

This reservoir is famed for its railway viaducts, which create the stunning illusion of a train gliding over water when the reservoir is full.

As usual, SRT went above and beyond to enhance the experience, offering a host of activities to complement the ride.

Adding a touch of serendipity to the journey, we met a new friend whose cheerful spirit and beautiful pictures brightened our day.
