Today we’re talking about strand lighting. In this case, we will be discussing which strand of LED would be the best to buy to suit which project? There are really 2 main LED strands that are being sold on the market. One strand is called an M5, which is made to look like the incandescent mini light strands we’ve all been using for years. The other is called a 5mm and that is what we will show here in contrast. We’re going to show a comparison between the two light strands. The M5 strand is a string of faceted bulbs, which means it will have dimples all the way around, meant to try and spread out the light distribution. The diode in the bulb is more directional. Although it looks bright, it will shadow depending on what angle you look at it. The 5mm is an LED bulb strand with concave tops, which will help throw light out 360 degrees around and carry a 180 degree beam spread. The 5mm will give you more of a beam spread, and when compared to the M5 strand, you can see the difference in the brightness and brilliance. The 5mm, for just brightness and brilliance, is a better light strand. The M5 strand may be more appropriate for something like a garland or wreath, where you wanted more solid look all around, considering it’s a larger bulb and spreads well. Each strand has its own usage, but as far as the overall quality and brightness, the 5mm is the brighter, more brilliant light strand.
