The South Island road trip begins — and it’s nothing short of epic.

In this episode, we kick things off in Christchurch, pick up our rental car, and hit the road in search of adventure. First stop: Edoras (Mount Sunday) — an iconic Lord of the Rings filming location. After a bumpy 2-hour drive across rugged terrain and a short 40-minute hike to the summit, we’re rewarded with unreal 360° views, even in the rain. A true hidden gem and an unexpected highlight of the trip.

From there, the landscapes only get more breathtaking. An overnight stay in Lake Tekapo sets us up for a scenic drive past icy-blue alpine lakes, including the jaw-dropping Lake Pukaki, which quite literally took our breath away.

We push on through dramatic mountain ranges in the pouring rain, finally arriving in Queenstown — and let’s just say, the best is yet to come.
