Three Chinese items - the Li ethnic group's traditional textile techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidering; the Qiang New Year festival, a traditional annual event of the Qiang ethnic group in China; and traditional design and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges - were added to the UNESCO heritage list during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Asuncion, Paraguay. After the meeting, Bangladesh NGO representative Lubna Marium said, "China has so many minority ethnic groups. The fact that it is giving importance to these ethnic groups, giving them the same status as all others shows that China has the good will to maintain plurality and cultural diversity. I very much appreciate that."
