मोदी की मजबूरी थी SC ST एक्ट, क्या तगड़ी बहस हो गई? | Modi | SC ST Act | General | BJP
The controversy that erupted between Tehseen Poonawalla and BJP spokesperson Shivam Tyagi at the Jaipur Dialogues Summit has now escalated further.
The debate has reached a point where arguments are being made to defend Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the SC/ST Act, and some members of the upper-caste community are strongly reacting to those arguments.
In defence of PM Modi, it is being argued that his decision to make the SC/ST Act stricter was taken under compulsion — that he had to swallow a bitter pill.
These remarks were made by Abhishek Tiwari, a journalist and YouTuber who organised the Jaipur Dialogues Summit. Responding to a post by upper-caste activist Neha Das, Abhishek Tiwari wrote:

“In politics, there are times when decisions have to be taken between those in power and the people, even when you do not personally agree with them. Sometimes, such decisions can even prove suicidal, as was the case with UGC.
The 2018 SC/ST Act was a bitter pill that Modi ji had to swallow. He could not afford to let the Dalit-Yadav-Muslim alliance win the elections.
Brother, Modi cannot change it even if he wants to right now. He simply does not have the numbers.”

But people are questioning Abhishek Tiwari's argument.
One user wrote that Modi ji supposedly does not have the numbers to stop the alleged misuse of the SC/ST Act or to introduce an economic basis for reservation. But somehow, reservation can be increased to 73 per cent and a UGC Bill can be introduced.
The user sarcastically added that Modi ji must also be thinking that he is planning to settle the score with Abhishek Tiwari's ancestors.
Another user responded to Abhishek Tiwari's post, particularly his statement that the 2018 SC/ST Act was a bitter pill that Modi ji had to swallow.
The user wrote:
“‘The 2018 SC/ST Act was a bitter pill that Modi ji had to swallow.’ — Abhishek Tiwari's words.
I simply cannot stop crying. So many innocent people have had their lives and families destroyed because of this Act, and apparently Modi ji passed it only because he was helpless.
Even in the draft prepared under UPA-II, the provisions were increased from 22 to 47, and apparently that too must have been done with great reluctance.
Perhaps Modi ji spent the next two days crying as well. We were the ones who kept misunderstanding the BJP. After all, having 330 seats does not necessarily mean you have any real power. A person in such a position is apparently even more helpless, and has to make these mistakes out of compulsion.”
Another user questioned the logic behind the argument, asking:
“What kind of argument is this? If PM Modi cannot bring reforms to the SC/ST Act, does that mean he can bring in UGC instead?”
What you are swallowing seems to be of an even worse quality. Talk about logic and make your arguments logically. What you are presenting is called a conspiracy theory.”
Another user wrote:
“This is what happens, Abhishek bhai. Once you stand with something wrong, you have to keep trying to prove yourself right again and again.
Everyone wants the BJP and Modi to remain in power at the Centre. But not at the cost of dividing society and keeping a sword hanging over people's heads. The BJP is acting out of arrogance, while you are busy defending it.”
One more user said that the BJP should stop using the lack of numbers as an excuse.
The user listed several issues and questioned what the government had done for the General Category community:
The SC/ST Act
Reservation in promotions
Reservation in Navodaya Vidyalayas
Reservation in Sainik Schools
Reservation in universities
Scholarship schemes that allegedly exclude upper-caste children
Free coaching schemes from which upper-caste students are allegedly excluded
Higher fees for the General Category in various institutions
Another user reacting to Abhishek Tiwari's post wrote:
“How does that make sense, brother? Read your own tweet again and again. There is neither logic nor any clear argument. Let Modi do politics if he wants to. Your job is to speak the truth.”
People also questioned whether Abhishek Tiwari was repeating the same mistake he had made during the UGC controversy.
One user asked him:
“Are you making the same UGC blunder again? You made the same mistake during the UGC controversy, and later, after understanding the issue yourself, you joined us in opposing it.”
