Описание: Skaggs Island was the location of a secret U. S. Navy communications base that was operated from 1942 to 1993, when it was abandoned. It was built in the middle of the 30,000-acre Napa-Sonoma Marsh, just south of the wine country town of Sonoma. The Navy is transferring the 3,300-acre site to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service so that it may be restored to tidal marsh. On January 28, 2010, a dedication ceremony featured the demolition of a 130-foot water tower to signify the beginning of the restoration.
