Tens of thousands join Pride parade in Santiago

Tens of thousands of people joined the annual Pride parade in Chile's capital on Saturday (22 JUNE 2019), to demand equal rights and greater protection for members of the LGBTI community.
Waving rainbow-coloured flags and wearing colourful outfits, they danced and marched through Santiago as they made their way to the parade's end destination, Heroes Square.
Organisers of the annual march estimated that some 100,000 people took part in the rally, which celebrated LGBT Pride Month and the 28th anniversary of Chile's Pride movement.
One of the participants in the parade paid tribute to victims of violence against the country's LGBTI community, saying it was hard to celebrate while they faced being "murdered and mistreated in the street for what we are".
