Blending into the dark forest behind, the covered outside room and large windows open to distant skies, allowing residents to watch the weather roll across the landscape making them feel as if they are a part of the weather.

Although the home was built five years ago and has gone through multiple winter seasons, the yakisugi siding appears fresh and sturdy. The color has begun to lighten up slightly on the south side where UV light from the sun strikes most strongly, and the soot along the edges has revealed blonde streaks on the vertically installed boards.

Embracing this natural patina as both character and part of the story of the structure, the owners plan to enjoy watching how the appearance of their home changes over many years to come.
