ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Jacob Lusk, born 1987 in Compton, California, displayed his musical talent from an early age, singing since age four and performing in church from age five. He excelled as the lead singer in his school choir and plays at United Faith Community School in Long Beach.
Lusk is now a church minister of music and previously worked as a spa concierge. In 2007, he joined the gospel group InNate Praise, founded by hip-hop artist Nate Dogg, performing in Los Angeles County churches.
In November 2010, he faced legal issues due to a missed court hearing related to riding an L.A. metro train without a ticket, resulting in a three-day jail stay. Initially, he received a two-year probation sentence, but he pleaded that it would harm his chance of appearing on American Idol.
His musical influences include his father Gregory Lusk, Billie Holiday, Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, James Moore, and BeBe and CeCe Winans.
