The dream of every single human being is to live a happy life without fear or anxiety. Most people think that to achieve this, they must first strive for economic success. What happens almost inevitably is when they achieve economic success, they realize that neither fear nor anxiety has disappeared. Rather, the opposite happens: They become more fearful of losing what they got and more anxious to get more of it.
Alan Watts expounds on the concept of "the uncalculated life" - a life without plans for the future and therefore of total freedom. The very fact that such a concept is just too hard to accept in our society today betrays the predicament of our present 3D consciousness, caught within the limitations of sheer material possibilities and deprived of the boundless riches of infinity.
