Cats on a Smooth Surface is an American rock group that, starting in 1978 and throughout the 1980s, was the house band at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Beginning in the spring of 1982, Bruce Springsteen often performed with the band, particularly on Sunday nights when he would appear unannounced at The Stone Pony and jump up on stage with them.
This audio and picture correspond to a show that took place at The Stone Pony on June 27, 1982. The Boss performed six songs with Cats on a Smooth Surface, including the world premiere of "From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)", following the release of Dave Edmunds's cover version a couple of months earlier.
