On sunny days, fish love to gather along the boundary between light and shadow. It gives them shelter from view, while still letting them keep an eye on what’s happening in the sunlit waters nearby. I've experienced it many times: when I swim from bright light into the shade, I have no idea what's hiding there until I get close.
These shaded spots have a special, almost magical atmosphere. And when you're lucky enough to find a mix of fish species and sizes peacefully sharing the space—like I did—it’s truly a beautiful moment.
From a nervous school of bream, a sleek pike suddenly slipped out and swam off through the crowd. I also caught the attention of two large, curious grass carp who came in close to check me out. Then a few emerald-green tench drifted through the scene, adding a touch of color and calm.
A quiet underwater idyll in the half-light—so peaceful, you don’t want to leave.
