This mural celebrates the Coachella Valley landscape and native wildlife. A dramatic sunset illuminates behind the San Jacinto Mountains in the midst of a lush super bloom.
In the center, the existing medallion with tiles are transformed into a desert sunflower, bursting, as the sun does in the desert. Statues of a flying burrowing owl, tortoise, and jackrabbit give an edge and harken to Desert X. These animals are also indigenous to the Coachella Valley.
Finally the sign “give in to the desert” lends a pop and is reminiscent of mid-century modern, an important piece of Palm Springs history. Giving in to the desert encourages the viewer to truly immerse themselves, explore, and behold the magical wonders of the region.
