Viewer Discretion Advised! This video contains footage that may be upsetting to sensitive viewers.
It is heartbreaking news that both chicks were taken by a Goshawk today. In the morning, a goshawk came to the nest & took CT (female). The video begins later in the day with CV (male) alone on the nest. CV sees a goshawk land in the nest tree & he reacts to defend himself but the goshawk grabbed him instantly. It was a terrifying several minutes for CV with the Goshawk looking down at him & started to pull off a few of CV's feathers 💔 & ultimately flying off with him.
This is such sad news to see these two beautiful falcon chicks grow up and would be getting ready to fledge soon - now they are gone! 💔 CT Big Sis & CV Lil Bro had a strong bond as siblings and were the sweetest Hobby falcon chicks! From snuggles & beak kisses, to food fight maneuvers and steals, both chicks were a shining light in a dark world & gave us all so much joy to watch. RIP little babies you will never be forgotten. My deepest condolences to WildlifeWindows & Dorset Raptor Study Group on the loss of the Hobby chicks.

2 eggs laid, 34 days incubation, both eggs hatched approx. 11am (UK) 16th July 2025. Chicks were ringed on Aug. 5th 2025. Chick #1 is a female, Chick #2 a male.
Dorset Raptor Study Group and Wildlife Windows have been working with and assisting Forestry England for over 20 years. On a voluntary basis we help monitor and survey areas of forest for nesting raptors and feed information back to Forestry England for forestry operations / planning.
A focal species of our monitoring has been hobbies (Falco subbuteo). We have been watching, studying and ringing at a number of traditional sites for many years.
This year (2025) we are pleased to be able to deliver a live stream from a hobby nest within the Forestry England South Forest District. This site has been used by hobbies, successive generations, for at least the last 15 years while we have been watching them. Set within a forestry, heathland and bog environment this nest will almost certainly show a different variety of prey items than other nests we have collected diet data from.
Notes: This is a wild nest showing wild birds doing wild things. The main prey items will be birds and dragonflies and some bats.
The only intrusion to the nest site will be to ring the chick’s when they are approx. 2 weeks old to aid our long-term studies of these birds. This will be done under license by experienced raptor workers.
