Hands down THE BEST trip in Vietnam if you're thinking about doing it...DO IT.
This vlog focuses on the real riding conditions, what to expect each day and the group dynamic. Intended to help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.
The Ha Giang Loop is a multi-day motorbike route near the Chinese border, known for mountain roads, remote villages and STUNNING views.
Route Overview
Start and end point: Ha Giang City
Common stops include Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac, and Ma Pi Leng Pass
Includes a boat trip on the Nho Que River
Roads vary between paved mountain highways, narrow passes, gravel sections.
Conditions vary on the season but often foggy, muddy, rainy and if in the summer really hot.
Tour Structure:
Daytime riding group: approximately 10 bikes per group
Each group is led by guides
At night, homestays combine multiple groups, typically 2–4 riding groups together
During the day expect to stop every 15 - 30 minutes for a break. Each stop will have snacks and coffee ( I highly recommend the egg coffee, salt coffee and white coffee)
What was included with Bong Hostel:
Motorbike and fuel and a Easy Rider (aka your driver)
Helmet
All meals during the loop
Homestay accommodation (shared rooms unless upgraded I recommend you upgrade)
Entrance fees and Nho Que River boat ticket
Rain gear: poncho, pants and shoe covers
Luggage storage at the hostel in Ha Giang City. On the loop you will only travel with your small overnight bag and can leave everything else at the main hostel.
Packing and preparation notes:
Pack light duh: Larger backpacks and suitcases can be stored at the hostel and only bring a smaller bag with you that will be strapped to the bike
Bring layers, including a warm jacket, as temperatures drop in the mountains
Rain jacket due to changing weather - everyone usually buys one in Hanoi before they do the loop.
Gloves are useful for cold mornings and long riding days
Bring enough cash; ATMs are not really available once on the loop
Keep a cross body bag on you all day. This is a MUST. You won't have access to your main bag during the day so keep cash, a portable charger, your phone in a cross body bag.
Seasonal considerations:
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) generally offer more stable weather
Winter months can be cold with increased fog
Rainy periods can make roads slippery or muddy
During my trip October 31 - November 4th the weather was mostly dry(we got lucky) and a mix between needed a jacket and not. Any later though and it would of been very cold.
