AMASYA is a province located in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. Its central district is Amasya. Its section is the Central Black Sea.
The provincial population of Amasya decreased by 0.68% in 2020 to 423,011. 74.2% of this population lives in cities. The area of the province is 5628 km2. There are 60 people per km2 in the province. (This number is 104 in Suluov.) The altitude of the city center is 400 m.
According to TUIK data in 2018, there are 7 districts, 8 municipalities, 107 neighborhoods and 372 villages in these municipalities, together with the central district.
The first known name of Amasya is "Amaseia". This name was given by Strabo, who is known as the first geographer of the world. "Amaseia" is the name given to the queens of the living people of the Amazons.
The first step of the War of Independence (National Struggle), which started in Samsun on 19 May 1919, was taken when Mustafa Kemal came to Amasya on 12 June 1919.
The plans for the liberation struggle were prepared, it was decided to convene the Erzurum Congress and the Sivas Congress, and with the "Amasya Circular" published on 22 June 1919, the National Struggle was put into practice by saying that "The Independence of the Nation will be saved by the determination and determination of the Nation Again". In this respect, Amasya was also the place where the first important step was taken in the establishment of the Turkish Republic.
As a result of the administrative division of the newly established Republic of Turkey in 1923, it became the central city of Amasya.
Amasya is located just behind the Black Sea. The city was built on the valley floor. Amasya, located on the road connecting the inner parts of Anatolia to Samsun Port, is connected to Samsun by the railway built in 1930.
