non-fluoride toothpaste (nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste) explained

Описание: Which toothpaste is better: fluoride or nano-hydroxyapatite? When fluoride is used, it interacts with hydroxyapatite (which is what tooth enamel is made of) and it actually forms a MORE decay-resistant material known as fluorapatite. Fluorapatite is MORE resistant since it remains stable until the pH drops to 4.5, whereas hydroxyapatite begins to dissolve at a pH of 5.5. The lower the pH in your mouth, the more acidic it is -- and acidic environments in the mouth are where cavities happen. So, fluoride toothpaste makes teeth more resistant to tooth decay in more acidic environments. By 1 pH level, fluoride is better at preventing the demineralization of teeth and promoting remineralization.

For my cavity-prone patients, I recommend fluoride toothpaste. Nano-hydroxyapatite, although similar in composition to natural tooth enamel, is not approved by the ADA (American Dental Association), nor the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). It seems to have great potential; however, due to the limited research, I am not yet recommending it widely.
