On December 4, 2025, Palliative Care McGill and the Canadian Society of Palliative Medicine (CSPM) held a memorial service for the late Dr. Balfour Mount (1939-2025). Known as the father of palliative care, Dr. Mount founded the first palliative care unit and service in Montreal in 1975. Now, 50 years later, we remember and honour his legacy. The ceremony was led by Dr. Justin Sanders, Kappy and Eric M. Flanders Chair of Palliative Care, and Dr. John Scott, President of the Canadian Society of Palliative Medicine, and featured guest speakers, photo and video tributes, and reflections on how we can carry on Dr. Mount's legacy in palliative care today.
