Wang Guiyuan, 65, a literature professor at the prestigious Renmin University of China, was dismissed on July 22, 2024, less than 24 hours after one of his PhD students posted a video on the Chinese social media platform Weibo detailing his predatory behaviour. Wang was also expelled from the Communist Party. Legal experts and feminist organisers have called on Chinese universities to set up better systems for reporting sexual assault and enforcing consequences.
