Dee has served for 26 years as the founding director of the Instructional Development Program at the University of Oklahoma. And also as president of the POD Network in Higher Education: in 2004-2005.The POD Network is the primary professional association for faculty developers in the United States; it is also the largest in the world.
During the last 10 years, he has consulted with over 200 colleges and universities in the US and 16 other countries, in South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
And he’s Published: “Creating Significant Learning Experiences” which is a fantastic guide on how to design courses for higher education, and a personal favorite.

ORIGINS: How did you get into the learning profession? What’s your story? Why are you still doing this? What drives you?

TARGET: you have a unique approach when it comes to identifying who the learner is and how a course needs to be structured to help the learn. Tell us about this.

ACTIVE LEARNING: What is your definition? What are strategies that novice instructional designers or trainers can use to facilitate this process?

TIPS: What are top three things you’d suggest someone do if they are looking to increase the quality of a course with limited time and scope. What to focus on?

DESIGN: How do you persuade someone to take on this approach in course design if they’ve never taken one of your workshops or believe “this is the way I learned things, so why change it now?”

SCOPE: Most courses try to cover too much. How do you decide what to keep and what to cut?

ADVICE: What advice would you have for a novice instructional designer. The small one-person learning department, who really wants to make a difference and be proud of their work?
What are the fundamental knowledge or skills and attitude they need to do this?

What do you say to people who are still skeptical of online training, and argue that a face-to-face approach will always be more effective. Or even preferred by the learner, what’s your idea for making online learning effective?
