When she painted pine forests at sunset, I’d sit on the little stool, resting my chin in my hands, gazing at the shimmering light in her painting and then turning to the window — out there, the real sunlight was also falling on the distant fields, just like in her painting.

She smiled and poured me more tea:

The hand-painted porcelain teacup is still there on the table, its gold rim chipped. Grandma used it during her breaks, sipping tea while her eyes drifted through the window, where the white curtains swayed and the breeze carried the scent of fresh grass to the very tip of her brush.

I’m grown up now. Grandma is gone.
But that room still lives in me — every lightbeam, every stroke of paint, every whisper of wind and those old familiar tunes.
Every time I think of my childhood, I return there. And every time I hold a brush, I know I’m continuing her dream — with the very memories she once painted into me.
