Navjot Singh Sidhu Jailed in Road Rage! Story Behind Sidhu's Punishment of 1988 Patiala Road Rage

Описание: The Supreme Court held cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu one-year jail in a 1988 road rage case. In this 34-year-old road rage case which former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu parked their Gypsy in the middle of the road in Patiala. When 65-year-old Gurnam Singh reached the spot in a car, he asked Sidhu and Sandhu to move aside which resulted the beating of Gurnam Singh by Navjot Singh Siddhu.
In September 1999, Sidhu was acquitted in the murder case in trial court
However, Punjab and Haryana High Court held both guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The High court also imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh each on both.
On May 15, 2018, the SC convicted Sidhu under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and acquitted him under Section 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the 1988 road rage case. He was acquitted and served with only 1000 rs.
On May 19, 2022, the SC imposed one-year rigorous imprisonment on former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu.
