(5 Sep 2014) Forty people have been killed in flash floods across Pakistan following heavy monsoon rains according to authorities.
Troops were sent in on Thursday night to conduct rescue operations and further flooding is expected over the weekend, according to the country's meteorological service.
One rescue worker in Rawalpindi, which lies nine miles (14 kilometres) south of the capital Islamabad, said at least 20 stranded people had been rescued in boats on Friday morning.
A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority said that 13 people died when roofs collapsed in the eastern city of Lahore on Thursday.
The rains also triggered landslides that killed six civilians and three soldiers in the Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Thursday.
Pakistan regularly suffers from flooding during the monsoon season.
In 2010, flash floods killed 1,700 people.
