Gemmy (DS-Max) Lion and Mouse “Lion Sleeps Tonight”

Описание: I found this at my local thrift store a couple months ago. It didn’t need any repairs however, I originally thought the mouse’s head was supposed to sway side to side like how others do. I opened up the mouse only to find out that there’s no body motor (or gears). After doing some research I came to the conclusion that this is a later generation of the original. It sucks it doesn’t have the additional third movement, but I at least love that it’s low pitched.

Another confusion with this is the fact it doesn’t have “Gemmy” branded anywhere on it, but on the tag is replaced with the brand “DS-Max”? I also had to research upon this and nothing really came up. The only person who has some extent of documentation on this brand is ​⁠​⁠‪@Attackjax123‬. From what I can understand, DS-Max was a Canadian distributor of some of Gemmy’s everyday products in the early 2000’s. I still think Gemmy made this because there is NO CHANCE any company can replicate Gemmy’s items this exact. The two business probably just had some agreement (or something like that) which made items like this branded with DS-Max instead of Gemmy.

While I was researching I also came to the conclusion that there are 4 generations of this for some reason😭. The first generation has a button tag (like the party pooch) and all three movements. The second generation has a sewn button pad with different head programming on the mouse (it moves less throughout the activation). Then the third generation has the mouse’s head movement removed (two movements), with better quality control on the audio pitch. Then there’s some unconfirmed version where the mouse is replaced with a lamb??

Overall I think this item is cool (especially the original model). I like how long the recording is. There was just so much more to this than I thought, I felt like I had to document all I knew about it here lol
