What Happened in Puerto Vallarta Today
This morning felt completely normal.
Sunshine. Coffee. Plans for the day.
And then within hours… everything changed.
A military operation took place in Tapalpa targeting Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. During the raid, he was wounded and later died while being transported to Mexico City.
What followed was chaos.
Cartel members began blocking roads with burning cars, buses, stores across Jalisco. Authorities declared parts of the state “code red.” Businesses shut down. Smoke rose all over Puerto Vallarta city. Security forces reported armed clashes, arrests, and seized weapons — including armored vehicles and rocket launchers.
Here in Puerto Vallarta, tourists were told to shelter in place. Flights were suspended. Airport closed. Streets emptied.
We weren’t just reading the news.
We are in the middle of it and on our way home.
