►The GV80 takes on the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class. Genesis's first SUV is powered by a standard turbocharged four-cylinder or a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine; rear-wheel drive will be standard and all-wheel drive will be optional. The GV80 is a brand-new entrant into the mid-size luxury SUV marketplace. It will go on sale in summer 2020 as a 2021 model.

►This mid-size luxury crossover shares the same all-new underpinnings as the upcoming next-gen G80 sedan and will be available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The engine choices start with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and escalate to a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. A hybrid variant has been rumored, but so far Genesis hasn't released any information on such a powertrain. On a recent trip to South Korea, we test-drove a diesel-powered GV80 that we won't get in the United States. We can say, though, that the new SUV feels athletic in corners and delivers a quiet ride.#Genesis​ #GV80​ #2021

►The GV80's interior ushers in a new, more upscale vibe for Genesis's lineup. Burled-wood trim, metal accents, integrated ambient lighting, and a large slim-shaped infotainment display keep things upscale but uncluttered. Despite the fancy materials, the interior design provides a sense of minimalism that feels truly elegant in person. The front seats are comfortable, supportive, and available with a massage function that feels legitimately relaxing. A standard three-across bench seat in the second row allows for up to five passengers; a third row of seats will be an optional feature but space back there is expected to be limited and should be considered a place solely for kids.

►A slim, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen stretches across the middle of the GV80's tailored dashboard. The fact that the screen is touch-sensitive is most likely to provide the front-seat passenger an opportunity to change the radio station or manipulate the navigation system, because the screen itself is quite a reach from the driver's seated position. Luckily, a click-wheel controller is mounted on the center console so the driver can interact with the system and it works quite well.

►The GV80 relies on either a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 – all-wheel drive is optional on the former and standard on the latter, while both engines work alongside an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All three trims (base, Advance, and Prestige) are available with either engine. #GENESISGV80,

►All in all, the base powertrain is a competent setup. The big four-cylinder's 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque adroitly manage the GV80's weight (4,707 pounds for the rear-drive Prestige we tested). Acceleration is smooth and predictable, with a hearty torque curve – peak twist spans from 1,650 rpm to 4,000 rpm, although thankfully the four-pot maintains its punch even at high engine speeds. The note from under the hood is pleasant, with a refined tone that only interferes during hard driving.
