In this video, I show you the final, working, and simplified approach to configure and use Remote MCP with watsonx Orchestrate using a local Docker-based MCP server.
Several previous examples struggled with network access and localhost limitations. The key breakthrough is understanding how to correctly retrieve and use your local network IP address instead of localhost. Once this is done, the setup becomes straightforward and reliable.
You will learn how to:
Retrieve your local network IP address using ipconfig getifaddr en0
Understand the difference between localhost and local network addressing
Run an MCP server locally with Docker Compose
Validate your setup using the MCP Inspector
Connect everything to the watsonx Orchestrate UI
Verify that the remote MCP configuration works end-to-end
This approach is production-aligned, easy to reproduce, and avoids additional effort to configure docker-compose for remote MCP with watsonx Orchestrate
