How do we know what media the Beatles were consuming in 1964? Through pictures of them consuming it! In this most meta of videos, we read what the Beatles read, from John’s awful book of sketches (In His Own Write) to Paul’s love of comic books (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen), to Ringo’s love of movies (Screen Stories). We also cover the Beatles reading about themselves in fan magazines of the time. In this way, we get a glimpse into a cringe-worthy time capsule of what reading material was of interest to the members of the Beatles 60 years ago.
I'm Dr. Mark Hatala and I'm a cognitive scientist who studies time travel by replicating entire days from the past. So all of the television (both daytime and primetime), newspapers, magazines, music (you name it) from a particular date - in this case, February 9th 1964 - the night the Beatles made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
This video is an analysis of what the members of the Beatles were reading in 1964.
