I was In Bhopal, my home town for a few days we decided to visit Bhojpur and we are glad we did. The site is about 30-45 mins drive outside Bhopal.
The history is worth researching, incredibly impressive.
Bhojpur temple near Bhopal has one of the largest Shivaling cut from one rock. It stands atop a hill in midst of beautiful view below.
Bhojeshwar Temple is a Hindu temple. Many Hindus travel from different places to offer puja to the lord Shiva and seek blessings from him.
The Bhojeshwar Temple is an incomplete Hindu temple in Bhojpur village of Madhya Pradesh, India. Dedicated to Shiva, The temple houses one of the largest liṅga-s in India. it houses a 7.5 feet (2.3 m) high lingam in its sanctum.
The temple's construction is believed to have started in the 11th century, during the reign of the Paramara king Bhoja. The construction was abandoned for unknown reasons, with the architectural plans engraved on the surrounding rocks. The unfinished materials abandoned at the site, the architectural drawings carved on the rocks, and the mason's marks have helped scholars understand the temple construction techniques of 11th-century India. The temple has been designated as a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
This unfinished temple could have been one of the largest temples of Lord Shiva if it was completed.
