Mercat Cross stands quietly at Castlegate, Aberdeen.
Built in 1686, it has witnessed proclamations of kings,
the declaration of rebellion,
the rise and fall of power,
and the slow return to everyday life.
In 1715, during the Jacobite uprising,
supporters of the Stuart dynasty proclaimed
James Stuart — the “Old Pretender” —
as King of Scotland beneath this very stone.
This film is not a retelling of victory,
but a reflection on memory, silence,
and a place that chose to remember.
