1980’s Sanyo 12” Kitchen Vent Fan

Описание: I started the year 2021 with a video of my restored dark red & beige National 12" ventilating fan, and the year after that with a dark brown custom built 48" ceiling fan. So for reasons unrelated to what I just stated, I'm starting this year with my most memorable childhood fan in my most favorite color combo, a dark blue & cream ventilating fan I barely worked on!

Japanese designers never fail to amuse me, especially when it comes to ventilation fans, and this one is no different. Here I have for you Sanyo's EK 30AZJK 12" kitchen vent fan! This is one of my biggest childhood fans, for you see, one of my grandparents' favorite old school Chinese restaurants had this fan with its front cover & indicator wheel missing. As a kid I thought the blue blades & blade nut looks weird, I thought the blades were painted by the restaurant owner, and the blade nut was the wheel cap from an old Isuzu Panther glued on the blades. Boy was I wrong.

I would film that fan in action, but unfortunately that restaurant went a major renovation 4 years ago & that fan along with several others got thrown out. Fast forward to late November 2022. My bored a** took me & my scooter for a ride around town to visit home electronics stores. The first store that I visited turned out to have some pretty interesting old fans in use & on display, and one of the old fans on display is this Sanyo! I asked the store employee if this fan is just for display or is it for sale. They told me that it's for sale & the price is just slightly lower than a brand new Panasonic 12" vent fan. I brought no money with me because I hadn't planned on bringing anything home that day, so I had to pull my a** which was sticking to that fan off from it to go home & get some cash since I know for a fact that the chance of finding another one of these in new old stock condition is close to nought. Later that day I scooted back to that store to bring the fan home, and even though the air direction indicator sticker on the fan shroud is missing, I had absolutely no regrets.

There wasn't a lot that needed to be done on this fan. I only gave it a quick wipe down, polished the blades so I can use it as a mirror, give the motor some oil, make a new indicator sticker with the help of AutoCAD, MS Word, some photo paper & packing tape, and it's pretty much camera ready! This fan has not seen almost any use at all in its life, as a result the motor & capacitor is still very healthy. This thing gets up to speed a lot quicker than all Sanyo 12" vent fans I've seen, and it even has a startup sound & running moan which I find very soothing!
