What if being “too sensitive” isn’t a problem to fix — but information your nervous system is trying to give you?
In this episode of NeuroSpice & Life, late-diagnosed neurodivergent hosts Freya Corboy (alexithymic counsellor) and Hanna Hosking (sexologist) reframe sensitivity through a neurodivergent, ADHD-aware lens. We explore how humans are not innately taught emotional regulation — and how suppressing emotional and sensory needs can lead to anxiety, burnout, and long-term mental and physical tolls, especially for neurodivergent people.
This episode is a powerful example of two ADHDers communicating through shared ideas — a non-linear, associative conversation style that loops, reflects, and ultimately lands on deep insight and clarity. While the discussion may wander, it always comes back around to meaning, connection, and lived experience.
Freya shares her experiences with sensory sensitivity, including food, clothing, and environmental needs, and how learning to listen to her body and nervous system has supported emotional regulation and reduced overwhelm. Hanna reflects on emotional sensitivity, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), relational patterns, and how downplaying emotional needs can have cumulative impacts on wellbeing.
Together, we challenge the idea that sensitivity should be minimised for others’ comfort. Instead, we explore why honouring neurodivergent sensory and emotional needs is essential — not indulgent — and how ignoring those needs can place people in detrimental emotional and physical states over time.
Rather than asking “Why am I so sensitive?”, this episode invites a more compassionate question:
“What do I need — and what is my sensitivity trying to tell me?”
