I've had a Vive for a few weeks now, but my Oculus just arrived and I wanted to see how a game like Out of Ammo would work with no tracked motion controllers... and just 2 buttons... and seated. The above video was taken at the 4 hour mark.
You gaze at a unit and press button 1 to go into first person view
You then gaze to aim and use the same button to fire
Button 2 takes you back out to "god" mode
Seems to work OK. I tested it by seeing how quick I could select a unit then target a box, seems to be as quick as using hand inputs on the Vive. To develop it further i'd:
Use the track pad on the remote to rotate the player so forward was one of 4 directions, as it's seated you can't be spinning around.
Have the gun lag behind the view so it wasn't so super accurate
When in god mode i'd show a circle on the ground where you are looking and having that circle snap to any unit it got close to, this should make unit selection super easy and I could use the same circle to issue move commands
