I've known Michael for over a decade, and in that time I've seen an extraordinary range of photographs from him – from landscapes, churches and abandoned buildings to foundries, quarries and forges from across the world. The photos always made me stop and ask: "how did he capture that?" But I never really knew the stories, the perspectives, or the thinking behind them.
This is the first in an ongoing series of Artist Profiles on Migration Patterns – a chance to go beyond the finished product and get into the mind of the person who made it.
There's something about Michael's work that gets under your skin. He points his camera at places most people walk straight past and somehow makes you see them completely differently. That's the thing about his photography. It doesn't just document. It transports you.
I'm currently working on a full conversation with Michael – his process, his journey, and the story of the man behind the photographs. If that's the kind of thing that interests you, subscribe so you don't miss it when it drops.
Migration Patterns is about seeing differently. About the journey behind the work, not just the finished result. Michael embodies that more than almost anyone I know.
For now – let Michael speak for himself.
