YELLOWJACKET WASP NEST IN SOFFIT! TRACKING THEM DOWN, ASSESSING DEMOLITION OPTION, COLLECTED FOR VIT

Описание: Welcome to the Green Wasp Removal Youtube Channel! In this episode, we continue training and mentoring the Manchester University Wasp Team as we do some exploratory work in the eaves/soffit of a private residence to locate a very active German Yellowjacket nest (Vespula germanica).

We’ll take you along with us, step by step, as we remove the exterior soffit, and then some interior wood, and track the forager wasps entering the structure until they lead us right to the nest.

We’ll show you how we assess the nest site to decide whether or not it’s worth doing significant demolition to remove the nest, or if the client would be better off having us do an attrition collection from the outside of the building.

This nest was located deep inside an inaccessible cavity between a brick wall and an addition room that had been attached to the home many years ago. The team ultimately decided it was best to do an attrition collection from the outside of the building, so we’ll show you how that process works.

We’ll also show you how we flash freeze the live wasp specimens in dry ice (frozen CO2) to preserve their venom for Venom Immunotherapy.

Most of the wasps we collect are utilized for Venom Immunotherapy (VIT). VIT is a life-saving medical treatment in which patients with severe venom allergies receive a series of injections (containing wasp venom products) which ultimately desensitizes them as they gain immunity to wasp venom.
